dc.description.abstractEl presente artículo recopila el proceso histórico del cuidado y su influencia en la concepción y evolución de la enfermería. De ahí la necesidad de profundizar en el pasado, ya que es en éste donde se encuentran muchas de las claves del presente y del futuro. El proceso histórico del cuidado está dividido en cuatro etapas: la doméstica, la vocacional, la técnica y la profesional. Cada una de ellas permite observar la evolución del significado del cuidado, entendido al principio como el mantenimiento de la vida, frente a las difíciles condiciones del medio. Históricamente, la figura que desempeña esta labor es la mujer, como madre de familia y como un factor asociado con la promoción de la higiene y la procura de unas adecuadas condiciones de alimentación y vestido. De una vocación de cuidado centrada en la caridad, la sumisión y la obediencia, se llega a una nueva concepción de la enfermería y al inicio, desarrollo y consolidación del cuidado como elemento distintivo, propio de la disciplina. ABSTRACTThis article compiles the historical process of health care and its influence in Nursing's conception and evolution, where the need of going deep in the past come from because it is there where may clues of the present and future are found. Acording to the historical process, the health care is divided in four stages: domestic, vocational, technical and professional. Each one of them let you see the evolution of care's meaning that was initially understood as life maintenance to confront the difficult environmental conditions. With a care vocation focused in charity, submissions and obedience until it became a new conception of nursing and the beginning, development and consolidation of health care as a distinctive element, belonging only to certain discipline.spa
