Más allá del hecho nacional, hay que preguntarse: ¿Cómo se entiende esa relación? El actuar y el pensar de Benedicto XVI nos sugiere una respuesta al respecto.La Iglesia presta el servicio de iluminación ética al Estado, que muchas veces -como lo muestra la historia del siglo XX– se ve tentado a recurrir al mal menor pero tolerando las transgresiones éticas. La Iglesia, a su vez, debe superar cualquier tentación de ilícito silencio al respecto y ser fiel a su misión profética. | spa |

Beyond the national fact, one must raise the question: how is this relation to be understood? The acting and thinking of Benedict XVI offers us an answer to it. The Church offers the service of ethical enlightenment to theState, which often, as the history of the twentieth century shows, is tempted to accept the lesser evil at the price of tolerating ethical transgressions.
